Simulators for surgery, ‘smart’ clothes and individual food – technological future by young researchers

At the TPU International Cultural Center a science and technology project session was held in the framework of the U-NOVUS Forum. At the plenary meeting, participants presented outcomes of their work aimed at overcoming technological barriers for successful implementation of the priorities of the Strategy for Science and Technology Development of Russia (SSTDR) and National Technology Initiative (NTI).


160 young researchers and specialists from 24 cities in Russia took part in this event. Representatives of the research and business sectors teamed up on the end-to-end technology and offered their technological solutions within five fields: Personalized Medicine, Highly Productive Agro-and-Aquaculture, Intelligent Transport and Telecommunications Technology, Eco-Energy and Resource-Efficient Energy and Advanced Production Technology. When making their final presentations, the participants displayed the desired image of Russian scientific achievements up to 2025–2035 in each field.

In the field of agro-and-aquaculture young scientists suggested several ways to increase the effectiveness of the agricultural and processing industry up to 30%, while improving the quality of products and introducing individual nutrition systems, depending on gender, age and health status of each person. They also presented opportunities to develop modern preparation for the whole range of crop production and animal husbandry and the introduction of personalized non-invasive selection techniques.

In the framework of the medical field the participants suggested using individual 3D-models of the patient’s body for operation planning, creating wellness screening and modern methods for testing biocompatibility of implants.

Scientists supposed that these and other solutions may reduce the number of complications after treatment by 50–70% and death rate — by 10%.

Young power engineers denoted power generating cloth, reliable systems for hydrogen storage as well as energy sources operating at extreme law temperature up to — 70? C as the advanced technologies in a short run.

The group Intelligent Transport and Telecommunications Technology suggested improving both safety and speed of delivery of goods and passengers by improving technical vision systems, self-learning of the robotic systems, as well as magnetic memory application.

The key goals of the group Advanced Production Technology were the reduction of energy inputs in production, minimization of wastes and defects to 0%, including reduction of the development process period through the introduction of machine learning.

‘There is the Strategy for Science and Technology Development of Russia and we should think together of the mechanisms for its implementation. There is such a thing — optimization of solutions, any suggestion can be improved. The most difficult is a basic solution. In case there is no solution nothing can be improved.

A team work presented their basic solution which requires further comprehension, however, it is a good starting point.

I was delighted that the team composed of people from different cities and organizations was built in a short term and provided a harmonious work,’ said Mikhail Sonkin, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region on Scientific and Educational Complex and Innovation Policy.

Young scientists and business representatives noted that such project work helped them understand the need for independent task setting and solution finding.

‘In our country we have such concept as a candidate pool. I believe we have to stop thinking of it. We don’t have so called reserved staff, however, we have qualified staff — people we have to work with. It is us who is responsible for those changes that we want to achieve,’ summarized Denis Sekirinsky, the Head of the Department of Priority Directions in Science and Engineering, Presidential Administration for Science and Education Policy.
